Anthropometric characterization and cardiometabolic risk in a neurodivergent population using waist-to-height index and conicity index

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the physical characteristics and health indicators of a neurodivergent population aged 6 to 30 years from the port of Veracruz, in order to understand their nutritional profile and potential factors associated with cardiometabolic risk. A quantitative, cross-sectional, observational study with a descriptive scope was conducted. The sample consisted of 25 participants from a Multiple Care Center (CAM), 18 men and 7 women. Demographic and anthropometric variables, including age, sex, body mass index, height, and waist circumference, were recorded using standardized procedures under the ISAK protocol and under the supervision of a certified anthropometrist. From these measurements, derived indicators such as the waist-to-height ratio and the conicity index were calculated to estimate the distribution of body fat. The results showed wide anthropometric variability and waist-to-height ratio values ​​between 0.39 and 0.69, with a predominance of values ​​above the cutoff point associated with a higher cardiometabolic risk. Likewise, the conicity index showed values between 1.10 and 1.40, indicating a tendency toward greater abdominal fat accumulation, particularly in men. These findings highlight the importance of evaluating central adiposity indicators to better understand the nutritional status of neurodivergent populations.
