Body Proportionality and Rate of Force Development in High-Performance Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Athletes

The present study aimed to describe the rate of force development (RFD) during hip abduction and analyze its relationship with body proportionality variables in high-performance Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes from Veracruz. A cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach and descriptive scope was conducted in a mixed team composed of 15 athletes (10 men and 5 women), aged between 15 and 44 years. Anthropometric assessments were performed according to the ISAK protocol, including body mass, height, sitting height, arm span, and iliospinale height. Maximum strength and rate of force development were evaluated through an isometric hip abduction test using load cells from the G-Force dynamometry system. Data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package, version 22. The results showed a positive correlation between iliospinale height and the rate of force development. Overall, lower limb proportionality may influence the ability to generate force rapidly during hip abduction. It is concluded that anthropometric variables associated with body proportionality may play an important role in neuromuscular performance in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes.
