This study examines regional and international influences in Oruro cumbia, comparing it with cumbia variants in La Paz, Cochabamba, and Peru in the early twenty first century. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, grounded in the review of academic literature on Andean cumbia and Peruvian chicha, historical sources, and comparative musical analysis of representative styles, supplemented by semi structured interviews with musicians and music experts from Bolivia and Peru. Results indicate that Oruro cumbia incorporates elements from Colombian cumbia tradition as well as regional styles of the Andean highlands, including innovations derived from cumbia valluna/electronic and Peruvian chicha cumbia, reflecting cultural syncretism in music. Influential groups such as Los Ronisch in Bolivia and the Peruvian Andean cumbia movement illustrate distinctive rhythmic patterns, instrumentation, and transnational diffusion characteristic of each variant. The study concludes that Oruro cumbia represents a hybrid musical phenomenon shaped by regional cultural circulation in South America, where migration processes, broadcasting circuits, and the adoption of electronic instruments have contributed to differentiated styles. These findings provide insight into the identity formation of popular music in Andean settings and its cultural exchange networks.
